It’s easier than you think to decorate Eagle ID homes for Thanksgiving. A few simple materials and a little time will give you beautiful décor to last through the fall season.

Painted pumpkins

Do you have uncut pumpkins left over from Halloween? Repurpose them for Thanksgiving! Use chalkboard paint or any color of acrylic to give your pumpkins a new look. Paint messages on them or let the kids decorate them with seasonal images.

Gourd vases

Grocery stores and farmer’s markets usually have a selection of unique gourds at this time of year. Choose a couple of interesting ones to make vases for your table. Trim the bottoms so they sit flat, then cut off the top and hollow out the insides. Place the gourds on a tray or platter to protect your table. Put a small glass inside the gourd, add water and arrange fresh flowers in it. Or skip the water and fill your gourd with dried flowers, sprigs of berries or sprays of fall leaves.

Burlap wreath

Wrap a foam, wire or grapevine wreath base with burlap. Pin it in place or sew loose ends together. Decorate with real or artificial leaves, acorns, berry sprigs or fabric bows.

Chalkboard welcome sign

Instead of a wreath, decorate your front door with a small framed chalkboard from a craft store. Embellish the frame with paint or decoupage, or glue on small acorns, fall leaves or plaid ribbons. Hang from a jute cord on the door. Now you can write “Welcome,” “Give Thanks,” “Happy Thanksgiving” or other greetings for your guests.
