With summer on the horizon, it’s prime time for people to get out of their homes in Meridian ID, and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine. Meridian Parks and Recreation wants to kick-start residents’ outdoor fun with the annual Unplug and Be Outside celebration.

This weeklong event features free fun activities in sports, recreation, and the arts. This year it runs from May 13-20 in various locations around town.

Kids’ sports will be the focus of Field Day on Wednesday, May 17. Families can go to Settler’s Park from 5-8 p.m. for workshops in soccer, tennis, and flag football. For those who enjoy fishing, equipment will be provided for fishing in the pond. Healthy food will also be available.

Other classes and activities during the week will include watercolor painting, dance, a guided walking tour of historic Meridian, a pottery class, a photo walk, a skate competition, and more. The Meridian Main Street Market will have plenty of great food and fun on Saturday, May 19.

Participants who take part in Unplug and Be Outside can get a Bingo card with the week’s activities on it. Those who mark off a full row on the card can win prizes. Bingo cards and the week’s schedule are available at meridiancity.org/unplug.
