People who purchase homes in Boise ID are often attracted in part by the great opportunities for outdoor recreation available in the region. One of the most popular activities in Boise is hiking. The area boasts a variety of trails available for hikers of all fitness levels. You can find everything from short, easy paths to more challenging terrain.

This sampling of regional trails will give you a starting point for finding a favorite hike for your family:

Jump Creek Falls Trail

Jump Creek Recreational area

Great for beginners, this half-mile shady trail provides an easy walk to a waterfall and swimming hole.

Charcoal Gulch Trail

Prescott National Forest

Although the trail is relatively flat, it’s just over 5 miles long, so it’s more suited to those with some stamina. The scenery includes a pine forest and a creek.

Goose Creek Falls

Payette National Forest

The hilly terrain makes the 3-mile Goose Creek trail somewhat challenging. It winds through a pine forest and leads to a waterfall.

Halverson Lake Trail

Owyhee Desert

For a different kind of landscape in open terrain, head to this trail in a valley above the Snake River. Highlights include boulder fields, ancient petroglyphs, and buttes. The hike is nearly 4 miles and is not shaded, so take plenty of water and avoid going on the hottest days.

Cuddy Mountain Trail

Hell’s Canyon Wilderness

This 7.5-mile trail is not well known, so you may not encounter anyone else on a hike. The scenery includes alpine meadows and pine forests.

Peace Creek Trail

Boise National Forest

Another lesser-used trail, this one offers views of mountains as well as wildflower meadows and streams. At 5.6 miles, it can be somewhat challenging, especially since fallen logs are often found across the trail. Bears have been sighted from this trail.
