If you’ve been shopping for homes in Meridian ID, you probably know that the area is full of fun things to do. But do you know where the name “Meridian” came from? Or where it ranks among the Best Places to Live in America? (Hint: It’s near the top!).

Read on for 4 fun facts about Meridian ID.

  1. Where the name originated: When the area was first settled in 1891, it was called Hunter. In 1893 an Odd Fellows chapter was founded there. The men chose the name “Meridian” because it was situated on the Boise Meridian. The town followed suit.
  2. Since 1994, Meridian has claimed the lead as Idaho’s fastest-growing city. Thousands of new people move in every year.
  3. Meridian is the second largest city in Idaho, after Boise. In 2019, about 114,680 people lived in the city.
  4. Meridian was ranked at #9 on Money.com’s 2019 list of Best Places to Live in America. The rankings included 1,796 cities across the country. Reasons for the high ranking include employment opportunities, plenty of sunshine, good schools, and lots of fun things to do.
